This SIG will examine how to reduce dramatically the power consumption of wireless access networks, considering all levels from the network architecture to enabling component technologies.

Energy Efficient Networks

Description

In the end-to-end communications solutions, one of the major contributors to energy consumption is the wireless access network. However, current wireless access technologies are not designed with energy-efficiency as one of the core requirements. This SIG will examine how to reduce dramatically the power consumption of wireless access networks, considering all levels from the network architecture to enabling component technologies.

Tech Challenges

  • Wireless small-cell architectures to reduce energy consumption
  • Dynamic sleep states of hardware and the interaction with services
  • Future perspectives on power amplification
  • Role of energy savings in advances for digital and analog electronics
